| ARDSI Today
ARDSI is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers
and supported by a small secretariat. It is dedicated to the
care, support and research of Dementia since 1992. Through
the 16 Chapters across the country we are serving the public
by conducting awareness programs, offering services, home
care, memory clinics, day care training programs and dementia
research. It is estimated that there are close to 4 million
elderly people suffering from this mind crippling illness
in India. ARDSI is the first Afro-Asian National Dementia
organization to get full membership in Alzheimer’s Disease
International (ADI) London (U.K.)
The Alzheimer's & Related Disorders Society of India
(ARDSI), Delhi Chapter has a commitment to promote an understanding
of Alzheimer's Disease. It seeks to define and develop quality
care and core services, to reach as many people with Dementia/Alzheimer's,
as possible. The Delhi Chapter also works in partnership with
other organizations which shares its aims.
We serve as a primary resource center through our Help Line
in the Delhi metropolitan area. Our trained volunteers provide
counseling over the phone as well as through home visits.
Diagnosis is arranged at our memory clinic at All India Institute
of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital
(RMLH) by Neurologists. This facility is free of cost. Several
public functions are held to disseminate information about
AD. Regular interactive sessions are held in various groups
including Senior Citizens groups in various localities. We
stress the importance of early detection which is the key
to effective care giving: e.g. preparing the environment to
cope with a degenerating brain.
Our Help Line urges the public to call us for information.
It also helps us in identifying sufferers who are prospective
patients of Alzheimer’s disease. We are able to bring
them timely assistance through our network of medical and
trained personnel.
ARDSI (DC) today has over 98 Life Members and 15 active volunteers. The Society is guided by a Governing Body of 14 members including eminent doctors and neurologists.
